Good evening Troop!
Tonight the boys were presented with a challenge to eat saltine crackers given a thirty second time limit (peanut butter was optional). The event was framed somewhat in the context of a eating contest, though the winning condition was never given. After the thirty seconds had elapsed, they discovered that the winner would be the first person who could whistle. After many cracker crumbs were ejected, the boys learned how the Bible warns us against gluttony, and how Jesus taught us to hunger, instead for righteousness
If you have found honey, eat only enough for you, lest you have your fill of it and (get sick from) it. – Proverbs 25:16
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they will be filled. – Matthew 5:6
The Woodlands Trail boys put together their perfect meal, by cutting out pictures from grocery store weekly special inserts and gluing them to paper plates. We talked about the food groups and the recommended servings we should have from each group per day.
Next week, we will finalize plans for the November 6-8 camping weekend at Long Hunter State Park. I will also distribute details regarding Operation Christmas Child, and we will discuss details about the Thanksgiving potluck dinner planned for November 19th.
Finally, I’m including an overview of the Woodlands Trail program so that parents and leaders can familiarize themselves with the program and the available award opportunities at this level.
